The second is a critique of school math, freely available online (https://www.maa.org/sites/default/files/pdf/devlin/LockhartsLament.pdf), that absolutely hits home on a lot of problems of math and school in general, but in a way that basically says "Look, its so cool, why are we ruining it? Lets do this better."
I recently read A mathematicians Lament by Paul Lockhart and it resonated so much with me that I plan to take another stab at math different from how it is taught in school.
If you are someone that has kids and their education is important to you, this book gives you some insight in to what math really is and why it is not taught in schools.
