I'm a big fan of Iain Banks since reading Excession (which still remains my favourite).
Excession is definitely my favorite. What a wonderful wonderful journey of exploration.
Excession by Iain M Banks. The other culture novels are also good but not as fun as Excession.

try "use of weapons" and "excession". imho they are much much nicer than "consider phlebas".
