I think everyone would benefit from reading Fudenberg & Tirole's book on Game Theory, which allows one to understand strategic interactions (which are abundant in Economics and Public and Foreign Policy, for instance).
Also, some of them (game theory in particular) are broadly applicable to and by most people who put the time and effort in to properly learning them.
