I have been a serious GTD user for more than a year now, and I feel amazingly more in control of my life.
Your lists are a way to offload the stuff in your head, so that you can focus on what's right in front of you and not have that nagging feeling that there's something you forgot to do or something more important you should be doing.
It really changed how I approach not only my workday but pretty much everything that could constitute "work" in my daily life.
I use the general idea and it helps to have a clear head when your fighting fires daily.
Also how important it is to contantly review my systems and lists to keep them current and to make decisions.
