This book made all the patchwork ideas I had about the incompleteness theorem fall into place and click while I was doing my bachelors
For actually understanding Godel's work I would recommend Gödel's Proof (Nagel, Newman, somewhat ironically, prefaced by Hofstadter)
Gödel's Proof and GEB blew my mind in high school, gave me the motivation to actually attend my math classes, because it finally showed me there was more interesting stuff at the end of the math tunnel.
Gödel's Proof by Nagel and Newman (best if he can read it with a partner and talk through the steps)
And, of course, if you want to simply read the proof, there's Nagel's /Gödel's Proof/.
