Kafka On the Shore by Haruki Murakami. I’ve always been a fan of Murakami’s works, but this novel from 2002 is, in my opinion, one of his greatest. It’s beautiful, haunting, and superbly thought-provoking.
Kafka on the Shore is a great starting book. Also Norwegian Wood is another example, though this strayed away from the magical aspect I like of his.
I read Kafka on the Shore in 2016 and let me tell you, I'm not a big reader (I'm working on it), but it had me thinking about it for weeks. The book itself is like a dream state, it's magic; There's something about it where even when I think about it again, I get taken off into the lands within the book.
The book is truly a dream. I'm not sure what is largely about but I will never forget how it made me feel. It's impossible to explain.
Still recommending to everyone that likes a little bit of fantasy combined with fiction and lots of cultural references :)
Kafka on the shore and the Wind-up Bird Chronicle are both trips.
