not just a masterful biography, but an exposition of the country and how it changed, plus penetrating analysis of power and how it is gained and used.
Lyndon Johnson's years in the senate (1949-1960) with an incredibly rich historical backdrop and detail. Caro is known for writing about power and how powerful people have wielded it, and this is a master work.
Cannot recommend his books enough for anyone interested in how power in organizations or government is culled and cultivated. His books read like thrillers, but are exhaustively researched and sourced.
Probably the best book on American politics I have ever read.
