Problems in general physics by IE Irodov [1] was one of those "bang your head on the wall, but when you get it it's ecstasy" kind of books for me.
Hell, a big fraction of the physics problems I assign when tutoring these days were written by Russians in the 80s, because they're just that good.
Irodov is also a great resource when preparing for the USA Physics Olympiad.
