I think Murakami is at his best in "Norwegian Wood" and "South of the Border" -- in different ways.
I greatly enjoyed "Norwegian Wood" - and even more (the much shorter) "South of the border".
It's crazy how he goes from such poppy music references from The Beatles in Norwegian Wood, to jazz pieces that have influenced him in others in novels such as South of the Border.
